The Tonsley Innovation District will have an Integrated Transport Strategy to help reduce the environmental impact of transport and ensure that the district connects with the surrounding transport system.
Tonsley is designed to support and encourage being able to walk safely to all work, retail, community areas and regional walking trails.
Lighting, shade, shelter and public art all assist in making safety a number one priority.
Cycling is the other major transport priority within the district and Tonsley’s bike paths link to those outside the precinct.
Specific facilities including secure bike parking, change stations, lockers and service facilities are all available at Tonsley.
Tonsley has bus and train transport with a direct rail link and a non-stop road corridor.
The Tonsley line was electrified on 2 May 2014 as part of South Australia’s public transport system upgrade. Together with the delivery of Australia’s most modern new train fleet, the electrified network results in a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly and faster, more frequent and more efficient service for commuters.
Flinders University runs a campus-to-campus bus loop for students.
While transport options such as walking, cycling and public transport is promoted, cars are still an important way of accessing the innovation district.
Parking spaces and shared spaces between different precinct users are available.
