AZZO Agility claim Squash Cup title with commanding Grand final sweep

AZZO Agility have claimed the Squash SA Corporate Cup title, defeating minor premiers Sportal 3-0 in a commanding Grand Final performance at Tonsley Innovation District’s 24/7 Squash facility last Tuesday night.

The result capped a fiercely competitive season that went to the wire, with the countback on games won required to separate second and third place on the final ladder, a sign of just how tight the competition had been throughout.

Sportal was the standout team of the minor rounds, winning all five matches to finish 10 points clear of the field and returning to Tonsley on the night of the final with confidence.

AZZO Agility, who had finished second, had other ideas.

Matthew Farrelly opened proceedings for Agility with a 15-5, 15-9 victory over Darius Rafizadeh in Match 1, setting a tone that his teammates would not let slip.

Jonathan Hicks continued the momentum, defeating Kane Ellis 15-2, 15-9 to put Agility on the cusp of the title.

Reilly Hollamby completed the sweep in Match 3, victorious over Jeremy Bemmerl 15-8, 15-3 to seal a clean-sweep victory for AZZO Agility and proudly take the trophy back to the office.

The Corporate Cup has a history at Tonsley stretching back to 2017, originally established as a Renewal SA initiative before being taken on by Squash SA. Renewal SA sponsored the 2026 edition, continuing its support for the competition and the Tonsley business community.

The competition returned in 2023 and 2024 and this year drew six teams of Tonsley tenant staff, with up to 32 players across the season.

Organisations Ziptrak, BAE Systems, KWST H Collective Group and Azzo Tenacity also fielded teams.

Two come-and-try sessions with a squash coach were also held as part of the program, aimed at lowering the barrier to entry for new players.

The initiative is designed to build social connections across the precinct, encourage networking and active lifestyles and ultimately grow participation in squash at Tonsley, Squash SA General Manager James Rogers said.

“The annual competition is especially important for small and non-tech based companies as it is the mechanism that brings us together in a fun, physical and social environment, Mr Rogers said.

“Without the Corporate Cup, workers from other businesses in the Innovation District are just friendly faces you pass each day.”

Located within Tonsley Innovation District, 24/7 Squash at Tonsley is the first permanent, all-glass squash court with round-the-clock public access in the world, right here in Adelaide.

Squash and racquetball are open to anyone, regardless of experience. Hire the court, turn up and racquets and balls are provided free of charge. Both sports offer an intense cardiovascular workout with players burning around 1,000 calories per hour.
