Software and simulation: a new industry emerges at Tonsley

The opening of a new co-working space, as well as offices for business accelerator company Innovyz, has marked the rise of a new industry sector at Tonsley.

Manufacturing and Innovation Minister Kyam Maher today officially opened the new premises, and said ‘software and simulation’ was an industry being targeted through State Government investment attraction efforts.

“I’m delighted Simulation Australasia, the nation’s peak body for the simulation community, has chosen to relocate to this collaborative working space managed by Innovyz,” he said.

“Simulation Australasia’s work to advance research, development and use of simulation technologies will further add to Tonsley’s growing reputation as a pioneering innovation district.

“It will help to attract other businesses in the software and simulation sector, and will assist like-minded innovators to connect with one another and with commercial services, including Innovyz.

“It also builds on Tonsley’s existing capability through Flinders University’s School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics, and businesses associated with the university’s New Venture Institute – which seeks to foster entrepreneurship in Adelaide.”

Simulation Australasia’s Chief Executive John Stewart said the organisation had been based in the Adelaide CBD for the past four years but the new office at Tonsley would enable it to take full advantage of the dynamic and fluid entrepreneurial business cluster.

“We recognised from day-one just how closely linked Simulation Australasia is with Innovyz,” he said.

“We operate in a somewhat symbiotic relationship, sharing insights, creating relationships, nurturing innovation, pushing beyond conventional thinking.

“The opportunity at Tonsley to collaborate with others actively working with a vision to change our society, build greater economic wealth and stability for our State and indeed our Country is remarkable.”

Investment attraction efforts targeting like-minded businesses and innovators to Tonsley are continuing with a focus on:
•mining and resource services
•clean technology and renewable energy
•medical devices and assistive technologies
•software and simulation (new).
