Tonsley Connections December event

Tonsley filled with gingerbread innovation at end of year celebration

Tonsley Innovation District was filled with festive spirit (and gingerbread) last week with around 80 members of the Tonsley business community coming together for the Tonsley Connections end of year event. We were also joined by Federal and local members Louise Miller-Frost MP, Federal Member for Boothby, and Kris Hanna, Mayor of the City of Marion.

The December event was held in the Central Forest in the Main Assembly Building, with attendees treated to a Christmas theme along with catering by ‌Three Little Pods and delicious gelati from ‌St Louis Gelato Cart. The event kicked off with the judging of the Gingerbread House Challenge, with entries on display at the Tonsley Pod. A big thank to our judges Cheryl Bridgart, Dr John Marshman and Louise Miller-Frost who declared the final winners as:

  • First place – Flinders University (CSE Team)
  • Second place – Ziptrak
  • Third place – Link Assistive

Philipp Dautel gave an update of what’s been achieved over the past six weeks since the last event, plus shared some exciting updates for 2024 – with a few highlights being:

  • The latest residential release by PEET, Vertex Apartments sold out in 24 hours
  • Clean Peak launched its big battery during Future Energy Week – further adding to the district’s sustainability credentials
  • Future Energy Week in November was a great success, selling out over the two days with 150 attendees per day and almost 150 students touring the district
  • Tonsley’s Technical College planned to open in 2025, will host students from years 10 to 12 completing their SACE
  • Alawoona Reserve and Wetland development is due to start in late January 2024
  • MAB Circuit due to be completed in April 2024
  • Boiler House redevelopment is planned to commence by mid next year

Thanks to everyone who attended and to see the fabulous gingerbread house challenge entries view the gallery below of all the entrants, along with other photos of the event.

The next Tonsley Connections is planned for March 2024.  Stay tuned, details will be sent out in the coming weeks.

Please note: Tonsley Connections is an event exclusive to the members of the Tonsley community. That is, people who work, study or live at Tonsley or are key stakeholders of the innovation district.
