Tonsley Innovation District is a Renewal SA project, created at the premises of the former Mitsubishi car manufacturing plant in Adelaide’s southern suburbs.

The district is home to over 30 businesses and over 80 members of the two co-working spaces on site, plus the Flinders University School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics and TAFE College. About 1200 people are employed on site– more than when Mitsubishi ceased manufacturing cars on the site in 2008.

It brings together leading edge research and education institutions, established businesses and start-ups, with a focus on advanced manufacturing.

Tonsley’s masterplan incorporates collaborative meeting and working spaces providing world-class facilities to help take new ideas from concept and testing to market.

The district was recognised for excellence in architectural and sustainable design excellence by winning two categories for the 2017 Good Design Awards. It also won the 2017 Urban Design Institute of Australia National Award for Excellence in the Urban Renewal category, among a number of other awards.
