Siemens Energy is the global energy business of the Siemens Group, which has been working with its customers on solutions for the evolving demands of industry and society for more than 150 years. Siemens Energy offers broad expertise across the entire energy value chain, along with a comprehensive portfolio for utilities, independent power producers, transmission system operators, the oil and gas industry, and other energy-intensive industries. With its commitment to leading the way in decarbonization of the global energy system, Siemens Energy will be a partner of choice for companies, governments, and customers on their path to a more sustainable future.
Siemens has been operating in Australia since 1872, with the construction of the Overland Telegraph from Adelaide to Darwin. Since then, Siemens has continued a strong relationship with South Australia. As an anchor tenant of Tonsley Innovation District, Siemens invested $5 million into establishing a world-class energy maintenance and repair facility. The facility is able to overhaul large equipment for the oil and gas industry that had previously been sent overseas leading to greater responsiveness for critical local industries.
Tonsley Innovation District is also a hub of hydrogen activity in Australia with Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG), the country’s largest gas distribution business, having constructed the country’s first hydrogen production and distribution facility, Hydrogen Park SA (HyP SA). HyP SA is enabled by a 1.25 mega-watt Siemens PEM electrolyser that produces hydrogen using electricity from the grid and potentially on-site solar.
