In partnership with the South Australian Housing Trust (SAHT), Renewal SA is delighted to present an outstanding opportunity to develop an ageing well residential project under the Renewing our Streets and Suburbs initiative, to be built in the Tonsley Innovation District.
With an increasing interest across government in supporting our ageing population, an ‘Ageing Well’ initiative has been developed to position South Australia as a global leader in health research and ageing has been established.
The ‘Ageing Well’ initiative’s aim is to establish a Future Living Laboratory Network in the form of a research and development facility – ‘The Centre for In-Home and Assistive Care’.
With an ageing tenant profile, the South Australian Housing Trust (SAHT) is one of the agencies most interested in how to support the ageing population, and has identified that the overall social housing stock portfolio is short on appropriate accommodation for this tenant group.
To address the gap in suitable aged housing, Renewal SA has identified and opportunity to develop additional and new social housing that is specifically designed, built and managed to suit the requirements of ageing SAHT tenants under the 1000 Homes in 1000 Days program.
The Ageing Well Residential Project will provide accommodation for approximately 30 older SAHT tenants, and will have potential for a mix of uses, as well as a focus on innovation in design, technology and/or research in the area of ‘ageing well’.
The intention is to locate this housing within the Tonsley Innovation District, which has the resources to contribute to the objectives of the Ageing Well initiative through innovation in design, technology and/or research.
Lot 331 is the high profile proposed site for the Tonsley Ageing Well Research Project.
The 1,535 square metre allotment is well-located within the Tonsley Innovation District, adjacent another planned 850-dwelling residential development and close to Flinders University.
Tonsley is Australia’s first innovation district, bringing together leading-edge institutions and companies to connect with start-ups, business incubators and accelerators in a high-value industry, research, education and residential district.
