On Sunday 18 June, Tonsley Innovation District was host to the first ever Australian Refugee Association Souk market. This was a huge success with well over 3,000 people attending throughout the day. The Souk began with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Naomi Hicks and Maureen Hume from Spirit in Unity, special guests included the Hon Zoe Bettison MP, The City of Marion Deputy Mayor Raelene Telfer, Deb Stringer, CEO of Australian Refugee Assoc., and Deputy Mayor Raelene Telfer.
The MAB was beating to the rhythm with performances by Oasis Dance Tribal Troupe, Chonkai Folkloric, Torath Arts Group Lebanese Fusion, Sun of Africa Drum and Dance Ensemble.
There was an array of mouth-watering foods, market stalls and musicians playing that took you around the world. It was an amazing experience.
