South Australia leads Industry 4.0 upskilling for Australian workforce

Tonsley based SAGE Group has launched a higher apprenticeship pathway for careers in high tech industries, the first of its kind in Australia, to upskill workers to meet the demands in Industry 4.0.

Developed by SAGE’s Skills Lab, the Diploma of Applied Technologies is designed to enable industry to harness the benefits of connected technology and big data by helping people develop highly in-demand skills in Australia. Skills Lab has partnered with peak industry association the Australian Industry Group, the Department for Innovation and Skills, TAFE SA and Flinders University to launch the program in South Australia, the first state in the country to deliver this VET qualification.

Dubbed as the emerging fourth industrial revolution, Industry 4.0 is the next stage in manufacturing. Powered by digitalisation, it connects the impact of emerging technologies and digitalisation across all industries such as energy, transport and infrastructure. Automation and big data analytics are transforming the manufacturing industry, driving new business opportunities through integration with the global supply chain.

A SAGE Group company, Skills Lab will provide participants with the opportunity to learn from real life examples and insights including access to current practices and the opportunity to learn on world leading training platforms. Expected to be delivered over a period of at least one to two years, the course will incorporate structured training delivery and opportunities for practice and reinforcement of skills including; self-directed study, research, project work and written assignments.
