South Australia’s Innovation Places Framework launched

In a nation-leading first, a roadmap for government, research, business and industry has been established to accelerate and harness the power of South Australia’s innovation places.

Today, the Premier of South Australia, Peter Malinauskas MP (pictured above), launched SA’s Innovation Places Framework – at the Australian Space Discovery Centre, Lot Fourteen. South Australia’s network of innovation places is a fundamental anchor to realise economic prosperity for all South Australians.

The new Innovation Places Leadership Framework, through current and future investment, is expected to unlock state-wide employment for over 42,000 people across South Australia’s 22 innovation hubs while supporting essential economic growth, investment attraction, job creation, regional connectivity and link state-wide education, skills and workforce programs.

The innovation places are defined by the clustering of curated industries co-locating with anchor research, education and training providers and include innovation districts, precincts and hubs as well as business parks and manufacturing precincts.

Tonsley Innovation District is front and centre of the Framework having contributed to the consultation process for key elements of the strategy. Under the plan, the innovation capability and long-term vision that has been developed at Tonsley will be protected.

"Right now, South Australia is in a unique position to offer the world both what it wants and what it needs. We can allow global geopolitical and economic uncertainties to impact our lives, or we can see this time as an opportunity to innovate and show the world what we can do. Innovation is key to unlocking our future. We must build greater economic complexity. "

The Leadership Framework seamlessly brings together a knowledge transfer network that includes our small to medium size business sector, startups and entrepreneurs, researchers, translation and commercialisation intermediaries, and a talented and skilled workforce.

Further to the businesses that work within the priority industry sectors the Framework sets out to link these businesses to the supply chain of the broader South Australian business community who can support, partner, collaborate on taking innovations to the market.
